Green Mountain Crop Mob!!!!!
On a beautiful day in April, tractor work, maintenance, stressful loan payments, were swapped for camaraderie, celebration, food, friendship, conversation, and enjoyment. In four hours a good group of virtual strangers came together on our farm and accomplished the task of a dead piece of metal, oil and hydraulic fluid. We made six, twenty five foot raised garden beds, using a cardboard mulch and screening technique, borrowed from the permaculturists. We worked in the spirit of our great grand parents who raised barns together, traded and shared machinery together, ate, prayed, and lived on the land together. Like true artist farmers we took out our paint and brushes and rendered a new visage on the definition of contemporary small farming.
